I am working on a project involving ABAQUS XFEM for stationary crack to obtain SIF and for crack propagation. However, I have encountered few problems. I have listed them below.

1. Simulation performed on stationary crack using classical method ( by defining collapsed elements around the crack tip and mentioning singularity) and xfem provide similar SIF

results, when compared, under the same loading and boundary conditions

However, the stress values near the crack tip differ by a larger extent in both these cases.

2. For crack propagation using XFEM, the following errors have been observed:

i) Too many attempts made for this increment

ii) Too many increments needed to complete the step

iii) The increment required is less than the minimum specified

Could anyone let me know if you have any suggestions to resolve the same.
