Dear Farzad,

As far as I understood from your question, you are trying to create an ACT for creating a parametric geometry and performing structural analysis, However, once you want to assign the material in Mechanical, you got an error that you stated.

There are two different ways for assigning materials. Either you can call an existing material (that already has been created in "Engineering Data") or make a new one just for the module that you are working on, which I suggest you use the first method that for reducing scripting quit a bit.

I think what went wrong is that you created the material in "Engineering Data" and before calling that material to the module (suppose Static Structural), you proceed to Mechanical where you get that error

The solution is that you record a Python macro in WB (or write the script) just for calling the material into the module and add it to your main program. Something similar to the following code.

favorites1 = EngData.LoadFavoriteItems() library1 = EngData.OpenLibrary( Name="whatever", Source="C:/whatever.xml") engineeringData1 = system2.GetContainer(ComponentName="Engineering Data") matl1 = engineeringData1.ImportMaterial( Name=" whatever", Source="C:/whatever.xml")

Just some questions : should the library irectory have slash or backslash , as you wrote with slashes, but in windows it's backslash, is there a difference in Ansys ?

if I take structural steel an add a new prop to it, what should I write in the library name ? when I save my new .xml, what is its library and how do I know ?

In IronPython and Javascript you need to use slash for defining path whereas in windows you need to use backslash instead.

you can find and manipulate the .xml file from your ansys files directory. Something like this.

C:\whatever_files\dp0\SYS\ENGD\EngineeringData.xml

Yes. You need to use the library name. For example, if you want to call Structural Steel which is under "General Materials". then you need to change the name to "General Materials".

Create a new project and insert a static structural analysis, remove all the material that is deified (Structural steel) by default. and run the below code. This code will create

You may realize that the "Source" is just a file name. This is because the file is embedded in ANSYS and there is not really a path to get access to this file. However, if you want to create your library and define your material then you need to define the path properly.
