I studied some research papers that soil pH will be changed after the addition of sodium metasilicate. So many of them used 0.01N H2SO4 for adjusting pH under laboratory and greenhouse condition. My question is it is easy to adjust pH in laboratory and greenhouse experiments but how I will adjust the pH during my field experiments? Because I will used large quantity of sodium matasilicate in field experiments. Kindly guide me with your nice suggestions.

Perhaps someone else can provide additional advice, but this is the feedback I had from one of our soil scientists (see my earlier post):
I doubt that sodium metasilicate could affect pH if applied at rates that would be appropriate (economical) under field conditions. However, use of ammonium sulphate, elemental sulphur or even aluminium sulphate would lower the pH. The exact amounts required would depend on pH buffering of the soil, and would need to be ascertained by lab incubations.
Malcolm responded well. Soluble silicates are sometimes used as 'liming' agents in Australia as many of our soils are naturally acidic. Adding a soluble silicate to an acidic soil will cause complicated chemical and microbial changes that may not stablise for a long time. To get better advice you need to say why you plan to add the silicate and disclose the properties of the soil(s)
