I presume this is an Agilent HPLC. This means you have a leak and the HPLC will automatically shutdown. Check for leaks around the column, then the injector, the detector, and finally the pump.
It is not necessarily a leak problem. But if this is an Agilent HPLC, like Bruce suggest and I'm agree regarding the message you've got, you can also check in your parameters of the method. In it, you can specify the minimum and/or the maximum of pressure for the method you're applying. If the pressure is not within this range when you start, the system will say you'll have to be in the range to start. Besides, what's your parameters (system, solvent, column, etc...) and what's the pressure?
Thanks for your responses. I checked for leaks, set the pressure to be between 0-625, which is the max and min range, just to see if I got anything. When the warning sounds the system shuts down. Additionally, when I tried to purge it does not leak out any of the mobile phase liquid that should be going to waste.
Insert a higher pressure, let's say 2000 psi. I presume you are using a C18 column which will not be damaged (for some systems the manufacturer says it can go up to 3000 psi).
Thanks Bruce. I called Technical support to come out and fix it. It seems the pump went out because the motor will not come on when I turn on the pressure. I really thought it was a user issue since the system is new, but it was a technical issue.
