Anticoccidials in feed are used to prevent coccidiosis. However, in Layer and Breeders these cannot use due to negative effects. But what is the actual mechanism involved in reduction of egg production, fertility and hatchability etc.???
According to my information, Only Amprolium can used in Layers and breeders. Mostly it is reccomended that use anticoccidials in feed only up to 12 weeks of age.
robenidine 33 ppm for 10 days (breeders at 40% production) no adverse effects. 33 ppm for 14 days (layers at 41 weeks of age) no adverse effects on birds or production but eggs tainted (2/3 ppm)
Amprolium, the most commonly used coccidiostat, works by depriving the Emeria of thiamine. However, I am not sure if it simply blocks the Emeria from utilizing thiamine or actually reduces thiamine in the patient. When used for breeding birds, it is best to supplement with thiamine, or provide thiamine-rich greens after treatment.
