For calculating Q-index for phytoplankton functional group can we consider only the water depth or should we also consider the area of the aquatic body?

I have already gone through this article but m unable to understand how the phytankton biomass for phytoplankton was measured for each functional group.

Yes Sir @ Abhijit Mitra I have seen in many paper but to find the Q index some are using the plankton biomass and productivity.So, I think we can not find it with the density data for phytoplankton community. Thats what I wanted to know exactly.Thank you so much for your kind response.
