I want to carry out a phytoplankton cell count using the method recommended by Leupold in 1998, and the formula requires me to know a strip of view. How do I establish that practically?

Field of view is what you see without moving your slide or the stage of your microscope. Strip of view is what you see when moving from left to right (or top to bottom), starting a the left hand side of your counting chamber and finishing at the right hand side.
If you know the exact dimensions of your chamber (field of view) you can calculate the percentage of sample that you have examined and then calculate the density of the taxa that you have identified. Provided your sample is evenly spread.
To add to the answers, it's best to use tools like Sedgewick Rafter Counting Cell/Chamber (SRCC), Haemacytometer, or Palmer-Maloney Counting cell to get the best result. You can also refer to this excellent guide:

Out of curiosity, what is the title of that Leupold 1998 paper that you refer, Yusuf Abdullahi ?
You must calculated the area of the strip : diameter of the chamber base x diameter field view for the objective you use (4. 10x 20x etc)
