Trimethoprim (TMP) shall be dissolved for intraperitoneal injection in mice.
The literature suggests that TMP is soluble in water up to 0.4mg/ml. I tried dissolving 200 mg TMP in 500 ml water, Ringer's lactated solution, or 0.9% normal saline at room temperature. In any of the solutions tested, TMP precipitated and did not fully dissolve.
Any advice is deeply appreciated. If at all possible, I would like to avoid injecting solvents like DMSO - which I've used to dissolve TMP (50mg/ml without issues) for tissue culture applications.
