If you know the mathematical projection of your map (or cube, or whatever that is geographical) and the coordinates of its corners, you will find many useful functions in the Generic Mapping Tools software suite (for bash), freely available to everyone: http://gmt.soest.hawaii.edu/

I'm pretty sure a function of GMT exists for your problem. You may need to call several ones in a sequence. GMT is a very powerful tool, you won't waste your time trying to master it!
