Senior citizens are vulnerable to several chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension. COVID 19 seems to be a new addition. For those with these existing diseases I would suggest frequent follow ups. Add insulin to those with Diabetes just on oral hypoglycemia agents. I would also treat for malaria which also prevalent in my area of practice and known to have some effect against several viruses and bacteria. I would also reassure the older adults and encourage them to get tested while we await availability of the vaccine. At home I would encourage the windows to be opened to allow for fresh air and sunlight. The benefits of sunlight are for vitamin D synthesis and it also destroys viruses and bacteria, however excess exposure is also detrimental. Maintenance of a balanced diet, exercise and social interactions with family is important for sound mental and physical health. Face mask and face shield is encouraged. Self isolation can be detrimental except in cases of proven COVID 19 which patient should be admitted into the hospital if symptomatic.
