I am trying to validate the experimental results of low velocity impact on 8mm thick epoxy matrix specimens. The specimens are pretty flexible and recover every deformation occurred from the impactor.
The problem I am facing in simulation-
I did some tensile tests to determine its young's modulus and plastic properties. When I put the young's modulus and plastic properties as material properties in abaqus the results are way off from the experiments. The numerical results show that, the young's modulus I am putting is being considered as too low for the specimen in simulation.
How can I improve my numerical prediction?
Md Tareq Hassan There is clearly an issue with your testing procedure in the numerical simulation, as evidenced by the time on the x-axis. Here's a quick tip: use Monte Carlo simulation for calibration with Simulia ISight.
Engr. Tufail Thanks for your answer. As you can see the epoxy matrix experienced large deformation. Should I go with hyper-elastic materials model in abaqus?
Based on my experience with materials development and testing, I would guess that your determination of the modulus should be at a comparable deformation rate as the calculated impact, either with a fast testing machine or using a dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA).
