So, the time 15-20 minutes for presentation and 5-10 minutes for Q&A.
Three days ago, at an international conference in Indonesia, the session chairman gave me only 5 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for Q & A. So, it was very difficult for me to make a good presentation....
Normally in standard International conferences time for paper presentation is 15-20 minutes with 5-10 min Q&A. However I agree with Muhammad Aslam Baig
that in the case of large number of papers and presentations, time limit is there. So, every thing depends on organizer that How he is managing the things. However giving very less time for paper presentation is not justified in International Conferences.
If I was you, I would have refused it! That is, if you had sent your abstract on time, and were informed that you would be given the chance of oral presentation. I hope you were not a "gate crasher".
As others pointed out, 15 minutes should be enough in well attended conferences. However, if you are a keynote speaker, you should get more time. For me an ideal situation would be 15-17 minutes presentation and 3-5 minutes Q&A.
Nazaruddin Sinaga .... sometime authors takes more than normal time due to which the Chair of session try to cover the time of that presentation by cutting down the time of other speakers...
In my case, i had often tried to ask about the time before submitting the abstract, so that I'd know better how much to say and be on time. (or as soon as it was accepted and I would start preparing the presentation)
Thank you very much for your nice reply. I agree with you, 30 minutes is okay, for presentation and Q&A. If the conference committee commits with this time, I think they could arrange it as well, hopefully...
What are your opinion about this, dear other scholars?
Summerize your work and stress on the most important findings.and express the most important facts or ideas about the subject in a short and clear form.
I'll just summarize the main points of the argument in a few words.
It depends on whether your presentation is a short communication, or a poster, or e-poster, or a keynote lecture, etc. You should read the conference instructions and realising time for your presentation and time for questions.
This is usually a tradeoff between speaker's need to clearly present a topic and amount of time available per speaker. I find that generally these days presentations are rushed and the speaker should present the main points at the beginning and have copies of the paper to hand out or to have handouts with an email link where the paper can be obtained. Best, D. Booth
Instruction would be stated. It is good to read through the guidelines. Usually it is 20mins, but this is not in all cases. It is good to know that conf presertation is not thesis defence. The organizers must have schedued every session timely.
We are discussing about creating an international organization of lecturers and researchers for us. I think you would like to be a member or organizer.
