I belive the principal role of odontoblastic processes in dentinal tubules is to provide and regulate the adequate dentinal fluid pressure in order to maintain a the requiered homeostasis , which is necessary for a balanced ions movement, further delivering them at the right place ... in order to build mineral where there is need for .
I guess there are many others metabolic exchanges , signals for pulp-cells and immune defense activity taking place initially or synergistically from the
odontoblastic processes....
There is need to consider with more attention the complex physiology of the whole dentinal-pulp organ and support the correct metabolic efficiency.
Thus dental care should be focused to be performed more therapeutically.
