I would like to know how much does it costs for a tissue cultured large cardamom sapling in Nepal. If any one knows would you help me by providing the cost and place/lab/nursery in Kathmandu where i can buy them?
It depends on what size of the lab you plan to have. Also, how many sterile hoods you need? What kind of autoclave you want--a large one or a small one? You also need a culture room or growth chambers for controlled lights and humility, and how many you need? You might also need a greenhouse if you want to move those plants from medium to soil. Cost vary depends on your operation size, so you need to give a more detailed and specific plans before people at the area can give you an accurate evaluation, in terms of cost.
I attached an article for you entitled "Setting up a tissue-culture lab". It is from phytotechlab.com.
In the article, it mentions some basic needs for setting-up a tissue-culture lab. They also included approximate price of each item (in U.S. dollars). You can use it as a reference. With limited budget, you can consider to use 're-usable' containers (such as glass ones, or MegentaTM plastic boxes) for your experiments instead of those 'one-time use' plastic containers.
Thank you so much Dr. Yuan for this valuable information. It will really help me in our upcoming project on large cardamom. The pdf attached is really good and i will implement that in my project.
Mean while i asked this question to find out where can i get large cardamom sapling in Kathmandu. Nepal and how much does ot costs for that tissue culture plant,
Sorry, I misunderstood your question. You just wanted to buy some tissue-cultured large cardamom from lab/companies from the Kathmandu area, Nepal. Are you going to do tissue-culturing on them in your lab?
Yes sir I am going to perform tissue culture of large cardamom in my lab for virus free large cardamom generation and propagation. It would be really helpful if you could provide any information regarding supplier lab in Nepal if anyone is in your contact.
1. I am not familiar with the resources of large cardamom tissue-culturing plants in the Nepal area. But, I attach a booklet for you (see below). There are some people listed in the booklet, who you may contact and find out the info you want from them.
Article title: Chaudhary, R. and S. P. Vista (eds). 2015. Proceedings of the Stakeholders Consultation Workshop on Large Cardamom Development in Nepal held in April 20, 2015, Commercial Crop Division, NARC, Khumaltar, Nepal.
1. Cannot you buy/request some fresh seeds, and sterilize the seeds for germinating in culture medium and obtain your own tissue-cultured plants? Are they easy to germinate? Of course, you have to have a plant tissue culture lab.
2. If your research study involves 'virus-free', probably you need to induce plants tissue-culturally from the 'meristem' cells to obtain 'virus-free' plants.
