We are receiving a shipment of blood for screening potential new monkeys in our facility, and due to weather complications they will sit for longer than we had hoped before they are processed. It will be 48 hr before we can process them, which will only include a RBC lysis step for Flow Cytometry staining (no Density gradient PBMC isolation). Is there a way to store them so they remain viable for this amount of time?
as the previous responses indicate, The answer to your question will depend largely on what you're trying to preserve and what kind of conditions are available for sample storage before analysis, i.e., can samples be refrigerated or chilled. In general, it's best to store blood samples at around 4° C, if possible. After two days of storage at room temperature or 4° C, neutrophils will be destroyed, monocytes will be variably damaged, but lymphocytes will probably be usable.
