A line from Beowulf illustrates why Old English must be translated:
"Wolde guman findan þone þe him on sweofote sare geteode".
‘He wanted to find the man who harmed him while he slept.’
Note: The letter þ is called thorn and is pronounced [θ] in this example.
Language change is a difficulty faced by both native and foreign users of English. It is even a challenge for writers who write historical fiction, setting their works in the past. They prefer readability upon using cliches and outdated words and expressions, though this sometimes thwarts their desire to maintain the realistic frame that characterises historical fiction.
That's totally right, Dr. Zaid. However, I guess that old English is still unique. It seems to me a key language that has to be flourished by writers again.
The ole English writers showed a path to all the teaching community. So, we have to try our best by discovering novel approaches and methods of teaching English by doing research in it.
