I am working on MnS thin film based electrodes. I observed that the specific capacitance of my material decreased with increasing roughness of films. What could the possible reasons behind it?
Electrochemical performance depends upon the behaviour of the electroactive species on the surface of electrodes I.e. their vulnerability to oxidation or reduction and rate of these reactions depend upon surface area of the electrodes which is influenced by both surface roughness. Further the adsorption behaviour or dischage of the species generated is influenced by the surface energy.
