I am wondering how come the column from the kit above can specifically remove genomic DNA, if it is silica based column then RNA will bind as well, isn't it? Does anyone have experience about it?
Double-stranded nucleic acids bind to silica much more strongly than single-stranded nucleic acids; hence you can separate one from the other by manipulating ionic strength and probably, the nature of the chaotropic agent being used in the kit.
Also, longer molecules (genomic DNA in this case, even when sheared by pipetting) will bind more strongly than most cellular RNA species.
