Many labs use optibond as a first layer on the mouse skull before using dental cement to attach an implant. However, in our hands it's been really hard to get the optibond to cure, even when using a very small amount. After ~2 minutes of UV light, the optibond doesn't seem completely cured -- it is still a bit liquid. Is this normal? Does it require more curing? Any insight helps!

Another option is to just use cyanoacrylate glue only. Clean the skull, score it lightly, and then use a thin layer of glue. This is both faster and more secure.

Hope your experiments are going well, just came across your question, way I did it is mixing Superglue (cyanoacrylate) and Baking Soda (sodium Bicarbonate) put a drop of superglue and immediately pour baking soda over the skull around your cannula and anchoring screws, wait a couple of seconds and repeat making a few layers, this way it turns to rock like bonding cement. But first things first, pls make sure that the skull surface is completely clean of tissue and dry. brushing the skull surface with a Q Tip soaked with 4% H2O2 usually does the job.

So I am understanding this, after you place an implant, put a layer of glue down and then dental cement? Does this help the cement stay in place? I have lost the dental cement/cannula piece on some animals before.
