How do you calculate the concentration of your extract if your extract is in liquid form.
For example, bacterial crude extract was extracted using methanol as the solvent and was dried to about 500ul of crude extract. so how do i calculate the concentration of the extract if i want to use it for antimicrobial assay and cytotoxic assay.

First, certain your extract better dissolves in methanol before making your stock.
To prepare the stock solution, weigh out the exact quantity of extract you have.
*Assuming you have 0.50g of extract, it will be equivalent to 500mg.
*To make a 100mg/ml stock you just add 1ml to each 100mg of your extract.
____In the case of the assumed 500mg, you add 5mls of Methanol.
To get the final concentration in your cell culture medium, you use the formula C1 V1 = C2 V2. where C1 = the stock concentration, V1 is the volume of stock needed, C2 = concentration needed V1 = final volume of media needed.
After extraction. evaporate the solvent ( methanol) to get pure extract ( free from solvent), then you can used as stock solution and prepare the required concentration.
