I am not from this region, but I would consider these from the news and documents (https://www.youtube.com/watchv=5O75RkBcJS0&ab_channel=AdomTV):
- inadequate storage facilities
- poor transportation infrastructure
- insufficient processing capabilities
If not properly stored, high temperatures and humidity can spoil produce.
I assume that many farmers lack access to modern storage technologies. Poor road conditions and inadequate transportation options contribute to losses (damage or spoils during transit from farms to markets).
In my opinion the biggest problem farmers face after harvesting their crops is losing produce to spoilage. This happens because fruits, vegetables, and grains can rot, get damaged, or be eaten by pests if not stored or handled properly. This results in a lot of food being wasted before it even reaches people.
Inadequate storage facilities, lack of proper transportation infrastructure, such as refrigerated vehicles, post-harvest infestations by pests and diseases, limited market access, insufficient local processing facilities & mishandling of produce during harvesting, packing, and transportation are some of the most pressing agricultural setback to post harvest produce.
Usually found in developing countries, wrong transportation methods, Lack of moisture that should be present in storage; lack of good storage facilities; This is due to factors such as damage caused by storage pests.
