I am following a procedure that requires a 100 mM NaHCO3 buffer, pH 8.5. I understand that one way to make the buffer would be to dissolve 84 mg NaHCO3 in 10 ml of deionized water. Will this always result in pH of 8.5? If not, what do I need to do to adjust the buffer to that pH?

I'm not sure if I should be adding HCl/NaOH or whether I should only be adding additional NaHCO3 to change the pH (if necessary).

Thanks.
