I am trying to dissolve 25kD branched PEI (0.4 g) in water (10 mL). So far I have been magnetically stirring at room temperature until the solution is clear. Is this sufficient? I saw on other websites and in other ResearchGate answers that heating to 60 or 80 C is common for linear PEI.
brPEI is mixable with water in any proportion (in contrary to l-PEI) at room temperature, just like a honey. Water is often added to increase mobility (reduce viscosity) of high molecular weight brPEI, but neat 25kD branched PEI is relative fluid.
Be careful at handling - it actively adsorb CO2 from air (!), distilled (=degassed) water is preferable
Hello dear. If you need dissolve PEI in water you can increase the temperature or increase the amount of water. In the case of linear PEÍ the solubility in water is 1 mg/ml. Best regards
If youre having trouble you can acidify it or heat it up somewhat. But it should be quite soluble, if the solution is clear its essentially fully dissolved.

Why is it a concern if it absorbs CO2? That wont effect solubility much. And handling it under inert atmosphere seems like an unnecessary nightmare
I feel now that real nightmare will work with chemicals from Kodak :-)

No need to work in inert atmosphere, soda lime tube is sufficient for most cases.

Ah OK. Ive never used PEI for that, I did materials science where that wasn't an issue. I dont know what Evaline wants it for though.
