I am doing a research project this semester on measuring BPA in water bottles under different conditions. I am using GC-FID to quantify it. I have a Varian 450 GC with a CP-Wax 57B column. I am also using a PEG SPME fiber with an extraction time of 10 minutes direct immersion. I am creating the standard solutions by dissolving 1g of BPA in 50 mL of methanol and then pipetting and diluting the solution with water. The GC method I am using is a 25 minute splitless injection at 260 C. I am probably doing something wrong here but I am unsure what to do.
Dear Dr Yeo, unfortunately I cannot help you as I am not working in the area of analytical chemistry. You might consider to look more closely in the literature but I guess you already done that. There are certainly methods described in the EFSA and SCENIHR opinions on BPA. So, that may be a starting point for you.

For BPA analysis, I would advise you to use GCMS as it is a more confirmatory method rather than a GC. The amount you are going to measure is very small and it may not be sensitive enough for a GC, and also difficult to confirm the peak in a GC.
