Dear Esteemed Researchers, a portable device was recently procured in my lab. that can determine the concentration of Nitrite (NO2) in treated water. To calibrate the device a standard solution of 30 mg/L NaNO2 solution was prepared . How do I determine the nitrIte (NO2) concentration in the NaNO2 solution, in order to compare with the reading of the device. Thank you
Assuming that NO2- doesn't further dissociate. This should be a direct.moles/liter calculation which I assume is still taught in introduction to chemistry books. The basic idea is that the Na nitrite dissociates 1:1. Best wishes, David Booth
To calculate the concentration of NO2, it is enough to see the molar mass of NaNO2 which is 69 g/mol,
The molar mass of NO2 is 46 g/mol, so the ratio of NO2/NaNO2 is 0.666. Your solution of 30 mg/L of Na NO2 corresponds to a concentration of 20 mg/L.
