I am modelling a beam with shell elements and to take the properties of the radius of the fillet into account I have to include the additional area as beam element. So is it possible to couple the beam elements?
Should I create coupling between them , It asks for master constraint points and slave points. Is selecting end nodes of shell and end nodes of beams sufficient
Or should I create multiple nodes on beams and shell and then select them as constraint and slave points. (I am using abaqus for the first time, So I am not very sure)
From your question, I think you might want to think about your modeling approach. Is it necessary to model the additional area using beam elements? First of all, it's only a very small percentage of the total section area. Second of all, if you must include them, I'm sure you can use just beam elements with the correct section properties, or just Shell elements with slight modifications (i.e. use slightly thicker shell elements at the location of fillet).
For your modeling approach, I would divide the beam and shell the same length wise, then merge the coincide nodes together instead of coupling.
BTW, both shell elements and beam elements typically have 6 degree of freedoms.
Be sure to match all the degrees of freedom you want. In general beam and shell nodes may have different degrees of freedom. If you already constrained all the degrees of freedom you want, there is no need for additional coupling. Pay attention that the local deformation/stress depends on the type of the coupling.
