I have an assessment in statistics where I have to compare 2 datasets with each other to make inferences but I honestly don't how to approach it.
My data sets are related to temperature anomalies and co2 emissions and I know this should be straight forward but i clueless on how to commence
Inferences can be either explanatory or predictive. You don't give a research question so I will assume that you wish to predict CO2 emissions. David Eugene Booth, I am actually trying to show that the increase in CO2 emissions over the years is affecting the rise in temperature.
I do know that correlation would show this positively but I am honestly vague when it comes to statistics and always struggle. I read online that for use of parametric tests ones sample data has to follow a normal distribution,
* but how do I identify my sample means for 1 if readings were taking over the years and each year represents a distinct population, or do I just observe the trend and ignore whatever distribution maybe there
*if that is discovered, can I base my hypothesis testing on the rate of temperature change observed over the years. or that is not a good enough question

If you could give me a research question and a small portion of your data, I can perhaps point you in the right direction. Correlation by itself won't work because by itself it doesn't establish cause. My initial thought is that you try to find a predictive model that shows as CO2 levels increase the earth gets hotter.
