I am using the NetSim dynamic clustering example which involves interfacing MATLAB for pruposes of clustering. The example uses k-means clustering in MATLAB. However, I was to replace this with my own clustering, which requires a few additional NetSim variables such as remaining energy in the sensors, packet lengths etc. Can some one please help, thanks.
In the existing examples:
1. NetSim passes a set of arguments to the clustering function present in the clustering.m file
function [A,B,C] = clustering(x,scount,num_cls,power)
which are:
x - The sensor X and Y coordinates
scount - The number of sensors in the network
num_cls - The number of clusters to form
power - The remaining energy in each sensor node
2. Clustering.m file returns three variables A, B and C to MATLAB workspace which NetSim reads.
Where,
A contains the cluster head id's of each cluster
B contains the cluster id's of each sensor
C contains the size of each cluster
You could try running the provided Clustering.m file with sample inputs to understand the code flow.
There are certain rules to name a file in MATLAB (Refer: https://in.mathworks.com/help/simulink/mdl_gd/maab/ar_0001filenames.html).
I am thinking of implmenting PEGASIS (or similar) protocol in NetSim WSN.
And it would involve the formation of a Chain (From source to destination), instead of just to the cluster head. And it also involves data fusion. I don't think this is possible in NetSim. Can you please clarify?
I did some further analysis and my Questions are
1. Can I send the X,Y co-ordinate of each sensor from NetSim to MATLAB? And can I set this X,Y as random in NetSim?
2. The remaining energy in the sensor is used in calculating the new cluster head. Can this remaining energy be got from NetSim and passed to MATLAB? Note that I need to do this for each clustering iteration. That means I need to make periodic calls to MATLAB and send the response from MATLAB to NetSim
3. How can I control the amount of data being sent by the sensor to the sink node?

1. Yes, the X, Y sensor co-ordinates can be sent from NetSim to MATLAB. If you select random placement in the GUI then the X,Y will be random for each node
2. Yes, you can send the remaining energy from NetSim to MATLAB. The calls can be made 'for each packet' or can be at 'different instants of time' etc
3. That can be controlled by the application settings. Just set the suitable packet size and packet arrival times
