Do you know of literature describing focal adhesion morphology in response to poor cell adhesive surfaces?

My HK-2 cells give small and plentiful focal adhesion on surfaces that limit cell adhesion and spreading. The PCL material is functionalized with a small oligo ethylene glycol spacer and a catechol end-group. I expected poor cell adhesive materials to induce a few large focal adhesions.
