As we know the increase in crack depth results in damping increases, but from our last experimental results for a cantilever beam, we have damping reduction for more depth of the crack! We test 3 crack length of 1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm for 10×10 mm section and 400 mm length cantilever beam. Does anybody know the reason?

As I think that, cracked beam has some down ward initial displacement.Then when subjected to vertical load this displacement will increase and the upward will be relatively small relative to the downward.The dynamic force will be resisted mainly by steel with continuous degradation of concrete. This is not damping ,Damping is ability of material to dissipate energy before failure.
