to calculate energy requirements for goat, we have to consider fat content in the milk, so to produce 1 kg of milk with 4.2 % of fat, animal needs more energy than to produce milk with 3.5 % of fat. energy needs formula use standard milk with 3.5% fat. is there a formula to transform milk production with 4.2 % fat to standard milk (with 3.5%) ?
I do not think that is possible by simply changing fodder to reduce fat % in goat milk. Fat % in milk is a genetic trait and so if you provide "less quality" fodder the lactating goat will simply use her body reserves to produce milk still at the usual 4.5 % fat but obviously less amount of it. However the animal will loose body condition and her fertility may be negatively affected. Anyway why do you want to produce less fat milk?
no, I mean if there is a formula to find equivalent of 1 kg of milk with 4.2% of fat to a milk with 3.5 % fat. ex: 1 kg (4.2%) = 1.3 kg (3.5%) (this is just an exemple). this is mean that 1 kg (4.2) need same amount of energy as 1.3kg (3.5%). for bovine, the standard milk contain 4% and the formula is: standardized milk = 0,4 L + (15 x L x F)
L = quantity of milk, F = % of fat

I m doing milk alignment and comparition of diferent cows groups with different milk yield and chemical composition, by making alignment of the cow milk to 4% standard milk with the follow formula:
4 % SM = (0.4 x M) + 15 x F
SM= standard milk
M= quantity of milk in kg (from cows milked for 1 day, 1 control period or 1 lactation)
F=(quantity of milk fat in kg for 1 day, 1 control period or 1 lactation)
By doing this you will see the rentability of the dairy herd,

that's what I wanted to know if is also applicable on goats milk! Olivier Godinot has said we can do it, and he has given us an other formula for fat and protein corrected milk.

Hi Hosssem, yes you can use these formula, but keep in mind hat it is just a logical transformation and fat metaboilism is not always proportionnal following a simple law. It is a way for global evaluation and calculus. always make calculus with and without correction in order to know the range of impact you could have. That could help for you for adaptation. Olivier answer is good!

Sorry I didnt read very well your question, since you are working with selection and genetics I was thinking that you are interesting of the rentability of some breed of goats and I gave my formula....Yes I agree with Olivier, we are using the same formula, and it is applicable for non conventional milk, goat sheep baffalo etc.

indeed, I'm working on Algerian goat, I try to assess its production performances to begin a genetic selection program. because this breed is still raised in extensive system, to valorize resources in difficult areas (mountains and arid areas), and it was only subject of natural selection.
