After "Virhoff" era eit is a big progression in morphological medicine, withou etiological and epidemiological approach! The cost-benefeit is very good and the MDs belevs in pictures (New religio?)
You ate right, Nicola, that pictures in medicine is the nee religion. Unfortunately, in the US, the ability to use sophisticated imaging at the ‘drop of the hat’ often displaces the ‘old fashioned’ approach of the physical exam and medical cognition. State of the art imaging capabilities in the clinic are wonderful, but unfortunately often tend to replace rather than augment ‘old fashioned’ diagnostic skills. In this country, the practice of defensive medicine also tends to overutilize imaging methods. I am not sure I agree with you that the cost benefit of imaging is uniformly positive!
