I am not clear in which area is most suitable for doing research in political communication.
There are multiple options for this kind of research. You can either go for the print media or electronic or even websites or blogs. However, a multipronged approach including quantitative as well as qualitative analysis would be a better option.
I agree with the previous ones. After reading books about the content analysis suggest using special computer programs for quantitative research. For example , computer software -
1. "Concordance". It can create lists of related counts, indexes, words, when working on electronic text. Allows processing large arrays. Allows you to view the correlation between the words included in the dictionary content analysis.
2 . "TABARI (KEDS)" - a program for automated coding of political events. It uses a built-in analyzer for the identification of words used for content analysis. When the program accesses the embedded and downloadable dictionaries. These can be used for other specialized programs such as SPSS and SAS.
3 . "CAMEO" - a system created for coding and analysis of political communication . Includes 20 major categories of event and 200 subcategories , extensive database for encoding names of politicians in the text.
4 . "Qualrus" is a tool of the qualitative data analysis , coding elements of the array for further processing. Qualrus can be used for a full range of qualitative research , including cultural analysis , interpretation methods , semiotics , history, bracketing , empirical analysis , analysis of short stories and works of other genres.
5 . "AnnoTape" - is a software for recording and analyzing audio, video, graphic and text data for qualitative research , marketing , journalism, media, archival services . Writes audio files - interviews , conversations, radio broadcasts directly on your computer hard drive . Can store up to one hundred hours of audio along with text data in one integrated database. Analyzes data , annotating and indexing original sound and text files. Effectively splits into fragments arrays of audio data.
