Usually , the moethod used for the determination HCN is based on picric acid, but according to it explosive and toxicity proporties, we prevent to use it.
Is there any other method to determine the production of HCN from bacteria ??
I agree with Misha, the picric acid solution you use for the assay is at a low concentration and hence not dangerous as a concentrated stock solution might be.
However there are other assays including use of a CN specific electrode.
