Hi everyone, we are planning a community-based study where eligibility is pregnancy. Anyone with experience enrolling pregnant women in community-based studies? Especially for those with early pregnancies who are not yet "showing". We do not want to do any biological pregnancy tests because of safeguarding issues.
Many countries with comprehensive sewerage systems can follow the development of Covid (prevalence, mutations) reasonable well via sewerage samples. It must be possible to get an idea about the prevalence of pregnancies in an small area via sewerage. Another idea is to let it know how important folic acid is from very early pregnancy (preferably even earlier, I think folic acid should be added to the placebo tablets of the pill, that way when accidentally pregnant on the pill still a store of folic acid present, and also in case the pill is stopped in order to become pregnant). Anyway if you have educated about the importance of folic acid in pregnancy and offer free folic acid, you might catch a few pregnant women interested in the tablets. As a side-effect you might prevent a few hydrocephalus and spina bifida victims. The prevalence of pregnancies in certain cultures might also be high among women who are getting officially married.
Perhaps some sorts of pica foods are popular among pregnant women in certain areas, moreover women that suddenly stop drinking alcohol are good candidates.
At 14 weeks you should be able to palpate the uterus and detect the fetal heart with a fetoscope or doppler.
