I am trying to prepare a silver thin film over glass. First I attempted to deposit silver. But I observed the poor adhesion of silver. I have to prepare a sensor chip for surface plasmon resonance based biosensor.
Thermal deposition? What kind of instrument did you use to make thin film?
I use vacuum evaporator to make silver thin film over glass with preasure 4x10^-3 and having a good silver thin film (silver mass = 7 mg). The more mass of silver the more thickness of the thin films. Thickness thin films are really hard to remove from the glass even I submerge them in alcohol for a night..
Thank you Gyorgy Banhegyi. We did not try classical chemical deposition technique. Before the deposition we cleaned the glass slide properly by using aceton, DI Water and methanol.
Cleanliness of the substrate is vital whether for an evaporative or chemical route. Ultrasonically clean for 15 minutes in warm (50 - 60C), 5% Decon 90, rinsing with particle-free 18 MOhm DI water and allow the water to drain off. Allow to dry at ambient temperature in air keeping particles away from the system. Alcohols can remove grease from fingers and deposit them on glass. The use of such solvents needs great care.
