I am conducting a research and investigation project into how modern Rapid Transit is inefficient, and how it can be improved through the introduction of physical change (such as materials etc) or by management changes (Using diagnostics to create optimum routes etc). If possible the project is focused upon Rapid Transit in Malaysia, but any input or advice is appreciated.
One simple and well-known device is to elevate stops vis a vis the normal "track" elevation. Second, cut and fill so that the normal tracks are quite flat. Third, optimize train length (capacity) and frequency to minimize energy cost per rider.
Two things you could do to have more energy efficient rapid transit:
1) Use light-weight materials like reinforced carbon fibers to replace metal structures. The lighter the weight, the less energy is used.
2) Use machine learning algorithms to predict the most efficient routes based on real-time data collected from the fast transit.
