How do we correctly estimate the curvature of the Topological Space M. What we have is a non-uniform sampling from M.
And do we classify the surface based on the global or the local curvature. If a space has a varying local curvature how do we classify it.

If by point cloud you mean the Cartesian coordinates of point in 3D space, then you have to best fit a plane, a sphere or a second order surface and see which fit gives collectively the smallest residuals. If this is your case, I could send a work of mine (currently in print) on how to do this, if you send me your email.
