I believe strategy without culture becomes an invincible demon. Culture without strategy is just 'revelation sans results.' Could you kindly opine on this?
A strategy is a complex decision making process in order to find a possible answer to a future problem, in conditions of lack of knowledge and uncertainty. Any decision making implies a set of of values and principles which are the backbone of a culture. Thus, strategic thinking and culture are integrated in any decision making process. A "strategy" formulated without respect to a given culture is not actually a real strategy. Moreover, a good strategy formulated within a certain organizational culture may not be a good one in a different cultural context.
I think that the real problem is not the interrelationship between strategy and culture but developing a strategic thinking based on negative values or anti-values, a situation that leads to non-performance and environmental destruction. For instance generating pollution for the natural environment for the sake of profit maximization can be an illustrative example. For me, the real problem is to make people understand the integrated nature of strategy making and cultural context and to make the difference between values and anti-values.
In my opinion, strategy and culture especially in the context of productive organization can be related. It is because of the fact that every organization has its own culture/climate and on that basis strategies might be developed to overcome the organizational effectiveness. Hence, it seems there is much relationship between strategy and culture.
Yes, I think its a relationship between culture and strategy , so the culture in the population affect on strategy of organization , and the strategy is determine the nature of culture in organization , so very sophisticated relation . This issue need to test statistically to show the results .
The cohesion between the strategy and the structure of the company is crucial. The structure will align the company with the strategy it wishes to pursue; and, along with the company’s culture and control systems, will utilise the value-chain competencies and capabilities, and facilitate increased competitiveness, profitability and superior return on Investment.
Organizational culture and strategy are linked because organizational strategy can be devised by studying the organizational culture in place. In other words, organizational strategy is influenced by the culture set in the organization. The culture of any company is simply the established pattern of doing things. A company's culture is what determines the attitude and the behavior of any employee in a given situation.
