I am using R 3.2 and Rstudio in Windows 7. Since, I am using a proxy internet connection, I always get the 407 proxy authentication error. I have tried setting environment variables with my proxy details, however, it doesn't do the job. Kindly help.
P.S. I am a beginner, kindly provide step-wise details if possible. Thanks.
This is quite a common problem, Not only with R or Rstudio but also with other software as well. The solution is either you can contact your Network Administrators to allow the network exceptions for this specific R or they can create an exception for that specific computer. This is sometimes not possible in some Institutes due to strict internet usage restriction policies.
The other possible solution is, if you have an access to the Linux machine, you can use the linux version of R/R studio, where you can set the entire proxy variables in the Terminal along with proxy user details. that can work sometimes.

Using the following method solved the problem for me
In R Studio Go to:
Tools -> Global options -> packages.
Tick the box : use Inernet Explorer library/proxy for http.
In Internet explorer, keep the proxy settings as system proxy.
Set your network proxy as system proxy as follows:
If you have Google Chrome, go to settings (in GC), type proxy in the search area..then follow change proxy settings ->lan settings.
