Using index.html as the main page is only

a habit. Sometimes it is index.aspx, index.php etc.

Try copying and pasting this search string into Google:

("digital library" OR "digital collection") AND (site:.ac.ir/index.html OR site:.ac.ir/index.aspx OR site:.ac.ir/index.php)

Of course, Google won't tell you how many libraries there are in Iran, just how many main pages hosted in Iran happen to mention the phrase "digital library" or "digital collection".

Hi Hamidreza, just a point about singular and plural uses. Searches for digital Library and digital libraries will have similar but different consequences. The best term would be "digital Librar*". I am not sure how Google deals with truncation. A side issue is that Google Hummingbird Algorithm will slightly tailor the results to your online identity. In other words two people who do the same search might get subtly different sets of results depending on their previous search history.  BW Matt
