I would like to model the evaporation process of a multi-component liquid droplet incorporating the activity coefficient, fugacity (non-ideal solution theory). In order to verify the model, I want to measure the vapor composition around the droplet without disturbing the evaporation process too much if there is any. I was wondering how to do so.
GC-MS is an obvious answer. Assuming the system is at full equilibrium a very small volume of the vapor phase is needed. Also I'm assuming you have a system with many droplets well separate from the vapor so such sampling is possible. If the system is not at equilibrium then I am doubtful about the validity of the resulting acitivity coefficients....review the assumptions and be careful with the thermo.
Hi Norman, I don't have a system to separate the droplets from the vapor. I was wondering if you are familiar with any sampling system which can get the vapor from the moving droplet (or stagnant droplet at the first stage)?
Hello, If I have properly understood, you are interested in the evaporative flow, and the composition gradiets around the droplet. In that case I don't think proper sampling would be possible, i would look into refractive properties, using an optical device such a laser (aiming to points near the liquid-vapor interface) to get the properties of a very litle spot of matter.
