There are “classic” inverters, that take single phase supply, rectify it to DC and then produce a 3-phase system out of the DC by using IGBT bridges and a carrier wave. The same principle can be applied to produce any number of phases, but we are talking theoretically here.
In my years of work in this field, I have never heard of a 5-phase application. Never seen a 5-phase generator or a 5-phase motor or any appliance.
Matrix Converter.

If you use 10 devices (5 on the top and 5 on the bottom) in the inverter bridge you will get 5 phase supply. The required firing signals will be at 36 degree interval. But in practical you will not get its application.
We designed an inverter with a phase conversion from 5 to 3. A transformer with a rotating magnetic field was used to form the phases (approximately as in a 3-phase induction machine). Successful tests of the pilot were carried out. If you reverse the input / output of the transformer, you can get a phase converter from 3 to 5.
