I want to ask about the dual function metal catalyst that is added to enhance the rate of production of oil from the pyrolyser, how can I fix this type of catalyst inside the reactor or should I use inert carier?
The choice on how to fix your catalyst depends on the contact mode of the catalyst:
(1) the catalyst contact directly with the reactant-you can just mix them together, and any substance/intermediates released from the reactant (polymer, biomass etc) react directly on the catalyst. However, it is difficult to recover the catalyst after the reaction.
(2) the catalyst is located near to the reactant, but isolated from the reactant- the location of the catalyst depend on your judgement, and the idea is: after the substances/intermediates are released by the reactant, they pass through the catalyst and undergo catalyzed reactions, before being collected or condensed. By using this method and proper placement of catalyst, whole amount of catalyst can be recovered after reaction for characterization and regeneration purposes.
