I am working on Helicon ion source. I have some questions about RF modulation in this ion source. I would like to know how RF modulation will affect the ion beam parameters? How can i detect this modulation and eliminate it?

as far as I know, we are struggling with modulation since earliest research in helicon waves in 1960s (F. Chen). Among others, there were two groups intensively working with helicons: one in Nagoya Univ. (Japan) and one in Bochum University (Germany). Prof. Tatsuo Shoji from Nagoya used the special type (so-called Nagoya Type I, II, III) rotating antennae with an active feedback to optimize coupling and to reduce modulation.
