I am modelling a Hybrid layered structure consisting two different materials. I have available the loss factor of both materials by the Experiments. How can I associate these loss factors to the material in the abaqus ??
There are two type of damping. viscous damping and structural damping. Viscous damping is frequency dependent and is defined by resistance to motion by a force Cut where ut = du/dt the speed of motion. Structural damping is accounted for by introducing a complex stiffness defined by K* = K(1 +2βi) where i = √(-1) and β = the loss factor. In Abaqus viscous damping is utilized.
The viscous damping coefficient "C" equivalent to the structural damping loss factor "β" is derivable from c = βMωn2/ω where ωn is a natural frequency of the structure and ω is the forced vibration frequency. You can now solve your problem.
