I have a really confusing question. I wanna count the cell of liquid based cytology(LBC). But the cell morphology is different between normal LBC and cancer LBC. And normally, cancer LBC contains so many sediments which with red color. I have no idea that if the red sediments also are cells or may be other debris.
Could anyone help me?

"Artefacts" can be cells as well as Cancer cells, epitheliums, or depending on the original liquid specimen. Background noise is admitted to be less than 5% with can be considered as an accepted technical error. The slides are to be " cleared - washed" with a solution like "substitute solvent" before smearing.
Liquid Based Cytology is to avoid interpretational errors due to overlapping of cells and masking of cell morphology by blood,mucus and other debris found in the cytodiagnosic samples prepared in the conventional method.Two different methods are being used in cytopathology laboratories namely membrane based thin prep and density gradient solution based sure path system.Both of these techniques provide monolayer smears.However,cells in clusters are found in both of these methods,particularly samples containing abnormal cells. Number of clusters vary depending upon the grade of abnormality. The background of the preparation will be more or less clear,which is helpful in many cases and at the same time disadvantageous in some cases where the tumor background is helpful for a definite cyto- diagnosis.Monolayer smear can be prepared using Megafunnel and cytocentrifuge. We have standardized this method and found very cost effective. Morphologically there is not much difference between conventionally prepared cells and the LBC preparations except for slight enlargement of the cells.The higher sensitivity of cervical cytology reporting is the major advantage of this technique.Pap smear reporting became much easier with LBC methods.Cell counting if required is much easier in LBC method than the conventional preparations.
You can use a image capture sofwtware with a counting tool, it would be much easier, and avoid double-couting. For the recognition of the elements you see in the slide, you perhaps will need the local help of a cytologist.
