In the formulation of the Takagi-Sugeno model, the weighting functions represent the average of every local model, getting from the computation of membership function. And these membership functions are calculated with several methods founded in the literature, my question is : why we choose this one insteand an other ? and are there a paper which explain these task clearaly ?

the shape of membership function depends on the linguistic variables which is defined in every specific problem. if the fuzzy system is designed based on expert opinion, so the shape of membership function can be determined by the expert. otherwise you can use try and error method to select the best membership functions.
