I want to calculate the shear modulus for orthotropic material. I have elastic modulus and poison's ratio for all directions. I need to calculate shear modulus in axial and radial direction. Please share the formula ,if you have.
On my opinion, I mainly study wood, it is a typical anisotropic material, but when we caculate ,it is seen as orthotropic , 9 elastic modulus must be know, so determination is the most credable way to get them. However, generally, many get them through the composite material mechanics equations, the solution is different from the experiment .
I know it's a question from almost 2 years ago, but mayby it is helpful for somebody searching how to calculate the bulk modulus in orthotropic material.
Hi Swapnil, did you get the answer to your question? I am looking for a way to compute Gij given Eij and vij. If you have an answer, please could you share (or point to it). Thanks.
Experiments have found one known Formula which calculates the shear modulus from the matrix and fibers young modulus multiplied with with the volumes fractions : see my papers. Some assumptions are to be considered in the three dimensional case.
Dear Dr. Mohammed Lamine Moussaoui, I would be more than happy if you please refer to which of your papers that you have shared regarding a known formula to quantify the shear modulus. Layth
Dear Mr. Layth S. Al-Rukaibawi , The formula is cited in
Dynamic Detection of Reinforced Concrete Bridge Damage by Finite Element Model Updating , Journal of Mechanics Engineering and Automation, Volume 4, Number 1, pp. 40-45, 2014. The experimental known formula in composites is
(1/G)=(vm/Gm)+(vf/Gf) which gives G=(Gm*Gf)/(Gf*vm+Gm*vf)
where m is for the matrix, f is for the fibers, v for the volumes fractions and G for the shear modulus.
