While I agree with the above comment, the following factors need consideration:
1. Statins are often administered in single once daily dose, generally taken in the evening.
2. Chronobiologically speaking, the time of day when these drugs are taken is important because the liver makes more cholesterol during the night.
3. The half-life of the particular statin under development.
4. Buccal delivery systems offer advantages in terms of administration, retentivity, enhanced bioavailability, avoidance of first pass effect etc. This, however, needs to be proven so that it gets translated into clinical benefits for the particular statin.
Agree with all of the above. To be specific, you can do PK of your substance, oral vs. buccal, and to estimate effectiveness, measure LDL reduction over ca. 4 wks, (aiming for at least -25%, the more the better).
